WITH most of his players having completed a week of pre-season training, Montrose manager Jim Weir is satisfied with the way things have gone.
"A couple of the guys are still on holiday, so things have been a bit interrupted so far," said Jim.
The manager has the signing of a centre-half and a striker as his priorities and hopes that something will happen soon.
"We haven't managed to
conclude anything yet, although discussions are ongoing with a couple of players."
The signing of striker Joe Savage, who ended last season with East Stirling, has hit a hitch.
Speaking on Monday, the Mo gaffer confirmed that Savage was not yet a Montrose player, but he was hopeful that something may yet happen.
Savage was due to undergo a groin operation and is likely to miss the start of the season.
At present, Weir only has two strikers in John Baird and Roddy Hunter and Baird will start the new season with a three-game ban, the result of his controversial sending-off against Stranraer in the play-off semi-final first leg.
Montrose have fixed up a closed-door game against Hibernian down at the SPL club's training facility. This will supplement the three public matches which they will play at Links Park, against Dundee (July 8), St Johnstone (July 12) and Brechin (July 18).
"I'm satisfied with the schedule of games which we have. It was difficult to fit another game in because of the early start to the season.
"I hope to have at least two more players in before our second pre-season game."
